The Signs I Almost Missed

Hey Beautiful!

I am so grateful you are here!

Last week I posted a reel about having some blood tests done.  Not because I felt like something was wrong, but because I wanted confirmation that the supplements I was taking were doing exactly what I was being told they were doing.

One of the tests I had done was a fatty acid profile test, which was an in-home blood test focusing on, of course, fatty acids and specifically my omega-6:3 ratio.   This ratio can be used as a picture of a person’s inflammatory health.  An elevated ratio is believed to be linked to many chronic diseases.  As I had suspected, you could say I passed that test with flying colors.  I confidently continued taking the omega-3 supplement I had been taking for the previous 6 years.

The other blood test was through the local clinic.  The typical test people have every year, checking cholesterol and all the things.  As I could have told you (because of my other tests and my confidence in the omega-3 supplement I was taking), my blood panel came back so good that the doctor never mentioned my weight.  And since I was aware that I could lose a few pounds (somehow they keep finding me 🤣), in my mind, the doctor confirmed the fact that I was on the right track.  Especially when he said I had less than a 0.5% chance of dying of a heart attack in the next 10 years!  This is exactly what everyone wants to hear!

As time went on, I continued to brush off my “fat” fingers and rounder-than-normal face on my genetics and weight.  After all, my blood tests were all very good.  It wasn’t until getting home from our trip to Thailand that I started to notice the swelling in my feet.  Someone who was traveling with Nathan and me said she would take water pills after long flights like that to help with the swelling.  I was never much of one to just take a pill.  I believe our body gives us signs for a reason.  I, personally, would rather find out what my body is trying to tell me than to cover it up, pretending it doesn’t exist.  Wouldn’t you?

The swelling in my feet and ankles would come and go throughout the following summer, but once the Minnesota fall and winter came, the swelling went away, to my delight!

In August, as I was visiting with some girlfriends poolside in Southern California, Tina mentioned a biofeedback analysis machine she had recently been introduced to.  I really respected her opinion, given her 25+ years of experience in the medical industry, using magnetic resonance imaging, which was similar technology as the machine she was telling me about.  I thought it was an interesting tool, and could see how it would be useful to help confirm what I already knew to be true about my health.

Our little retreat ended, and I was back in Minnesota, dreaming of the oceanside beaches and California sunshine!  A couple of months later, Tina messaged me about a sale on the QMRA machine, so I decided to add it to my toolbelt.  I was very excited when the package arrived, and I had everything ready for my first scan.

I am sure you can feel my excitement, even now.  Here I was with the tool in my hand that would give me insights to my health, even before they show up as physical symptoms.  I couldn’t wait to see how the rest of my family compared, so I could give them advice that would help them make simple diet and/or lifestyle changes to improve their scans to match mine. 😬

Do you have an idea of where this is going?  If you guessed I was in for a surprise, you were right!  I thought I knew my health because I knew my numbers.  It turns out there was more to the story.

I was stopped in my tracks, unable to move past the first tested body function for several minutes.  My cardiovascular/circulatory section showed much more than my fatty acid blood test or the panel that was done at the clinic.  Of the 15 sections of the scan in that area, I had four that were moderately abnormal and should be addressed.

Four areas showing insights that were moderately abnormal and should be addressed.

I wasn’t sure how to feel.  I went through a range of emotions.  I recall being scared.  I mean, we’re talking about heart and cardiovascular ~ the silent killer!  From there I moved to being a little angry.  I had truly believed that I was doing everything right.  I was assured I was taking the best supplements for my health and heart (up to 95% of what anyone needs and a few more), and the doctors even confirmed how healthy I was.  From there, the anger moved to myself.  I ignored the signs my body was giving me instead of trying to figure out what the underlying cause was.

God gave us these beautiful bodies that are so intricately woven together.  Small issues in one part of the body can show up in other areas because they are all tied together.  We don’t need to feel intimidated or fearful when it comes to our health.  We need to pay attention.  When we recognize small shifts early, we can make adjustments before they become bigger problems.

In that moment, I made a decision.  I was going to take the wheel when it came to my health!

On December 6, 2025, I stopped taking the “best” supplements and started with some herbal ones focused on a mild, whole-body detox, a multi-vitamin, and two products for my heart.  I needed to know which products were better for ME.  Not only for my heart, but for my entire body.  The biofeedback machine was the exact tool I needed to monitor any changes in diet, supplements, and lifestyle changes and how they affected my body.

By January 19, 2026 (less than 6 weeks later), I had 87 improvements across the tested body functions in my scan, leaving only 1 moderately abnormal marker in my heart that needed more time.  I am happy to say that every month, as I continue to monitor any changes, I am still seeing improvements.  I am at what I would now call the new beginning of my health journey.  The beginning of where I become empowered to monitor, make changes, and monitor some more.  It reminds me of the business acronym PDCA, or plan-do-check-adjust.  Because that is my new motto when it comes to my health.

My goal isn’t to convince everyone to use the same tools as I do.  My goal is to make people curious about their health.  My goal is for people to find tools or ways to recognize the signs our bodies give us long before something shows up on a blood test.

I attended a celebration of life for a friend who died from a heart attack at 47 just over a week ago.  As many people do in these circumstances, I couldn’t stop thinking about how quickly life can change.  It reminded me how grateful I am that I chose to pay attention instead of just hoping everything would work itself out.

Procrastination is never good, especially when it comes to our health.
